Westgate Heights Early Learning Centre
Westgate Heights Early Learning Centre is a Christian-based licensed childcare centre. It provides care for up to 66 children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. It is part of the New Shoots Children’s Centre group. This service received an ERO Assurance Review in February 2018. It meets regulatory standards and is operating as intended.

Learning Tree Westgate is a purpose-built childcare centre licensed for 110 children including 36 under two years. It is situated in a business area of Westgate, and is organised into three age-related areas with separate outdoor spaces.
Teachers are well supported by the centre director and manager to make resourcing decisions that promote positive outcomes for children. They are developing their professional practice and use internal evaluation to inform ongoing improvement.
The centre also has a good policy framework and systems that guide its operation. Staff have high levels of confidence in their appraisals, and they are developing personal goals to improve their practice.
The service’s philosophy advocates respect for children’s capabilities and positive parent, caregiver and whanau partnerships with teachers. It upholds quality early childhood education and practices that promote the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand. It also promotes a strong focus on meeting parents’ aspirations and requirements for their children. This promotes positive learning outcomes for children.
New Shoots Westgate
New Shoots Westgate is located in a fast-developing west Auckland suburb. The centre offers a range of education and care services for 125 children, including 40 babies aged under two years.
The centre provides a variety of services to support the development of children in a culturally diverse community. It is part of the New Shoots Children’s Centre group and opened in February 2018.
The service was reviewed by ERO in January 2019 after a family raised a complaint about its health and safety practices and communication with parents. It was found to be taking reasonable steps to meet regulatory standards. It was placed on a provisional licence until it could be reviewed again in four years. The service is in an Auckland unitary plan zone. Demand for childcare centres among buyers remains strong as savvy investors realise the long-term potential attached to these properties. The centre is currently being leased for 15 years with two further rights of renewal.
