Water is a strategic public asset and I support the public ownership of this resource and of the urban water infrastructure.
I don\'t support the privatisation of water.

I strongly oppose water privatisation.
Water is a necessity of lifeĀ With the expected passing of the Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill councils will be able to enter in to contracts with private companies for 35 years. You could have a one term council making the decision for a generation
Water is a natural monopoly as we just can\'t live without it. As a shareholder in a number of public companies I have nothing against private enterprise but not in monopoly situations for something as vital as water! Directors of companies are obliged to work in the best interests of their shareholders and generate a profit and pay tax. In North Shore City currently our water services do not generate profits and are not used to cross subsidise other council activities and because they are not operated as companies do not pay tax.
I think that we should pay for what we use. Water is a scarce resource and therefore users of water should pay for it, and waste water is a by product of that and again, the more you produce the more you should pay.
Why should the ittle old lady who lives by herself pay the same as the house next door or even across the city which is a family of 6 with 4 teenage children.
They use far more than the little old lady and they produce far more waste as well.
