Do you support the incorporation of the Nelson Marina Facility in the same way as Port Nelson Ltd and the Nelson Airport Ltd - OR - do you see it continuing as a public recreational facility as, for example, Saxton Field, Trafalgar Park, various bowling clubs and tennis courts?

Nelson Marina is a wonderful local facility and I would not want access to be lost for those who live in the Region.  Many assets that have moved from Public to Private ownership have done so at a loss of choice for \\\'the people\\\' and I would expect that that any plans to alter the current situation would go through an open and wide-reaching consultation process.

The marina is certainly under-utilised and I could see it really coming to life down there with a little imagainative planning, and I welcome the Heart of Nelson intentions to connect it to the city by walkways and cycleways.

I can see merits in making it another LATE enterprise with some commercial input from business experts on the Board, so that it can be a successful commercial enterprise, without losing sight of its role as a recreational facility for the general public use.

Hi Cathie

I prefer the latter option.

At this time I see it remaining as it is a recreational facility. If there was a compelling reason I would consider looking at change but do not have any information that would support this.

I support the marina continuing as it has been.

I understand that the council has had a arm length report and part of it was on the marina. Also all council meeting have been behind close doors in regard the report and the marina.

I would also like to see the marina finished off. As a boaty I see the marina as a hole as a recreational facility.

No

This is a wonderful recreational resource for everyone to use.

Hi Cathie

My apologies for the delay in reply.  I believe there is merit in incorporating the Nelson Marina Facility, to give it a more structured protection and guideline on its use and maintenance but still for public enjoyment.  The idea of incorporation should certainly be investigated.  Thanks and best wishes,

Marie Johnstone

Incorporation? Absolutely not!

This is a prime recreational resource available for the enjoyment of all.  Anyone knowing the history, the development and the nature of the participants would abhor the suggestion that this become an elitist facility.

Where would the line be drawn?  Incorporate Trafalgar Park, Saxton Field, the bowls clubs, the tennis clubs?  I think not!

Sorry I really dont know and would need to investigate this issue more before making an opinion.

Hi Cathie, I don\'t have solid a  understanding of the background to this facility at this stage but I have a number of principles to give you an idea about where my thinking is at present. I want to ensure we have  better cohesion and synergies across similar facilities to improve efficiencies. The more operations we bring under the same umbrella that are similar in nature the greater the chance of reducing operating costs. Consequently, I would have thought that a marina is best operated in some way under the guidance of Port Nelson. The best structure may well be  a 100 % owned  subsidiary of Port Nelson. I want to see the NCC focus on core services like water management, waste management, roads and footpaths as much as possible. Therefore I am open minded to considering having the marina established along the lines of a business model if this can be acheived. However I would have thought it may be  best to keep it under the stewardship of Port Nelson in some way. Port Nelson is also owned by the TDC so both  parties would need input into any discussions. Regards Patrick
