I would like to know what your intentions are regarding the purchase of McVicars forest (surrounding Worsley Spur) to form the Cashmere forest park, and what time line you see this happening in?

Thanks

Richard

I have not formed an opinion around the purchase and would base any decision on the facts.

The Community Board, from what I can tell, has been very supportive of the idea in principle and I am definitely in favour of it. As for timelines, I am unable to make any reasonable comment without further reading and discussing with Council Staff and elected members.

I can commit to meeting with you, or any other party interested in getting behind the fast-tracking of the purchase and protection of the forest, if I am elected.

Thanks for asking me,

Hi Richard

The first thing was to secure this area of land for the future of all Christchurch which we have done.

The job now is to consult with the people of Christchurch for ideas and feed back on the possible uses of the park and go from there.

As for timelines, it is more of a matter of wait and see now as we have to concentrat on helping those in Christchurch get back to normal.

Thank you for your question.

Tim

Hi Richard,

I support the formation of the Cashmere Park and I would like to see it developed sooner rather than later.  The timing issue is obviously related to funding and that is up to the councillors.  Given the earthquake, I would not be surprised if the land purchase is somewhat delayed but certainly not lost.

I hope that answers your question.  I am interested in your views on this issue if you are willing to share them.

Regards,

Mike Thorley
