Dear Candidate:
To assist with the selection of councillors who I believe will represent, please respond to the following questions with a "Yes" if you support the statement, or "No" if you would vote against. Please do add additional comments should you wish to.
1/ Graffiti - Make it a council initiative to remove graffiti in public places regardless of the property owner.
2/ Broken glass - Increase the cleaning of streets and public areas, including footpaths to be regularly cleaned by council contracted maintenance staff.
3/ Increase amount of marked cycle lanes in Palmerston North.
4/ Introduce a local government fine to motor vehicle drivers that drive in cycle lane.
5/ Back local government to lobby parliament to introduce a national refundable deposit scheme for beverage containers.
6/ Fund a second city crossing over the Manawatu River.
7/ Extend the Liquor Ban Area by at least 1km beyond the present boundaries.
Regards
Chris

Answer
1/ Graffiti - YES
2/ Broken Glass - YES
3/ Cycle Lanes - YES, although with the proviso that they are areas that justify lane marking ie. not every street in neighbourhoods.
4/ Motor Vehicle Fine - YES, with a period of community consultation. It\'s imporatnt for us not not only encourage cycling, but \'safer\' cycling in the city.
5/ Beverage Containers Deposit Scheme - YES, any initiative to encourage recycling.
6/ Second Crossing - YES, but with Central Funding. Although desirable, this can\'t be fully funded by ratepayers.
7/ Liquor Ban - This ban has been extended at the Council Meeting on Wednesday. At this stage, I don\'t support a extension beyond the new area until council can review the impact it has had.
1/ Graffiti - YES
2/ Broken glass - NO (refer to Q5)
3/ marked cycle lanes - YES
4/ Cycle lane fines - NO
