The birth of modern day government was a rebellion from the tyranny of Dictator rule or the Monarchy, and the idea was to let the people rule their own lives with little impact from their government. In the last century there have been three main examples that have tried to restore this founding: Calvin Coolidge, US President for 1 term from 1923; Margaret Thatcher, British Prime Minister for 3 terms from 1979-1990; and Ronald Reagan, US President 1981-1989. All three of these great leaders reduced the role of government to give back to the people. How do you agree or reflect this statement?

Mine is one of hands off. People need to take responsibility for them selves and there families, however they also need to be aware of consequences of their actions. New Zealand is a well founded democracy and Local Government exists by the laws which empower local Government by the Crown.
The demands on Local Government is increasing, more social issues are being devolved by the crown. I am happy to pick up more responsibility for local government provided funding sources are there as well from the crown.
Often Local Government is blamed for \"red tape\" and slowing process\'s down however we are the regulator as well as the monitoring agent. RDC has in the past had a poor record of consenting time frames but recently we are regarded as one of the best in terms of delivering better resource consenting application process.
Hope this helps
