Answer

Yes, definitely live in the Ward (currently 31 Shearer Crescent, Naenae) and have done so for 58 years.

I strongly believe councillors should reside in the ward they represent.

I grew up at 136 Naenae Road opposite the Phillips factory from before it was built and after I got married we built a house at 16 Kerkwall Drive, Naenae.

Whilst I have not had any immediate dealings with the Waiwhetu stream issues in recent times (at it\'s outfall) I am deeply concerned about the strream from it\'s origins to the river outfall. This is why it appears on my flyers and brochures as a key matter I wish to address.

My property borders the stream at Naenae Park and often I am aware of a stench from the water which tells me all is not well.

I look forward to being an advocate for more work on the stream over it\'s entire length.

Yes, I live in the Eastern Ward.  I would find it hard to represent the community if I didn\'t.

I have been an active member of the Waiwhetu Stream working group (WSWG) for over 10 years.  As part of WSWG I have organised school groups to plant near the stream and have made submissions on issues that will affect the stream.  The stream is important to me.  My children have grown up visiting the stream, feeding the ducks or just enjoying wandering next to it.  I would like to see the health of the stream improved, and the flood risk reduced.

Hi Brent,

Apologies for the delay in replying.

As required by section 113 of the Local Electoral Act, the address that I have to plaster all over my election material confirms that I live at 51 Awamutu Grove. This is just inside Harbour Ward, actually, about a block over the Eastern Ward boundary.

My personal involvement with the Waiwhetu Stream has been largely passive, experiencing its regeneration over recent years on regular walks along the banks with my partner and children.

However, we in VAN - Valley Action Network operate as a team. Among our core group are local residents who actively participated in the Waiwhetu Stream Advisory Committee, from 2006 onwards. I have learned from the contributions made by these VAN team members, and share their commitment to a clean, safe waterway for all.

If you have any further questions, I\\\'d be happy to answer them (and promise to do it a lot quicker - by phone, if you like, 021 053 2973).

Yours faithfully,

Grant Brookes

Thank you for taking the time to ask us candidates a question.

Yes, I do live in the Eastern Ward (Strand Crescent, Naenae), as I would like to be easily accessible to the public that I serve.

I would have to admit that I have had a minimum involvement in regards to the Waiwhetu Stream apart from the fact that a part of it runs along our own backyard in Strand Crescent and also when I helped a former classmate at Naenae College in 2007 with her Geography assessment where we had to interview residents who resided along the Waiwhetu Stream (in particular, Riverside Drive North) where we heard their concerns mainly around the state of the stream at that time and concerns about flooding.

Despite my minimum involvement with this topic, I am always keen to listen, to learn, and to understand the community\'s concerns.
