Election
Wellington City Council - Northern Ward
Date
October 5th, 2010

The condition of Ohariu Valley Road, especially at the northern end is very poor. The overall condition of the road has been made worse by the recent trenching to put in fibre cabling. What will you do to improve the roading in Ohariu Valley?

Answer

Roading is a regular feature of the Makara-Ohariu Community Board (which I regularly attend).  At the last community board meeting it was confirmed by council officers that the company which laid the fibre optic cable is being required to resurface the road.  I hope that this answers your question.  If you would like to discuss this with me further please don’t hesitate to email me with your contact details.

Hi Elspeth,

The Council road engineer\\\'s undertake an annual survey of every road and footpath in the city to determine its future maintenance programme. Computer modelling and a cost-benefit analysis is then undertaken to prioritise spending on the city\\\'s worst affected areas.

I have contacted the council\\\'s roading team to see if any remedial works have been programmed and am awaiting confirmation. I can report this back to you when I find out.

If works have not been planned, I would happily meet with you and bring the problem areas to the attention of the Council\\\'s roading team. We would then be able to confirm if works can be scheduled in the future and when they might occur.

Best Regards,

Justin

Dear Elspeth

Thank you for your query.

I will take the matter up if/when I am elected and ascertain whether there is funding to correct the damage either from Wellington City Council, whoever did the fibre cabling or some other source.

I would appreciate it if you could email me directly so that I can take it up after the election.

Kind regards

Thank you for your question.

I will support upgrading Ohariu Road and work to make the access and use of the road better and safer for all.

Hi Elspeth, further to my reply yesterday Council Officers inform me that chip sealing done will be done on Ohariu Valley Road between Takarau Gorge Road and Boomrock Road between 1 Dec 2010 and 31 Mar 2011.  The exact timing has not been confirmed at this stage.

Kind regards,
