Previous Council committed to a long term (10 year) Raod maintenance contract. We have been told that $45m savings have been put back into upgrading existing Roads. One would question that statement as not being factual.
My view is that this long term contract is not in the best interests of the use of ratepayers money in that the market is not tested regularly to ensure that Council are getting the best value for money. Contract rates fluctuate annually but Council can not take advantage of this.
If elected, will you insist that Council staff explore better ways to utilise your Customers money?

Answer
Thanks for the question-- I am very concerned that the rural community who pay so much in rates have not had a better service on roads and the last road maintenance .contract has seen a significant change in this, and I am in favor of this continuing, if at all possible. Naturally one will listen and encourage the staff to do the homework necessary to ensure the community gets the best value for the dollars spent.
