  1. The People -Auckland Council must not start with a budget for infrastructure, but with a vision shared by the people of our city. -You need to be part of creating the vision & ensuring that the foundations of Auckland Council are laid on a series of Priorities & Strategies that the people of Auckland have been involved in designing.
  2. Economic development & employment - Council decisions must be about the people. -Economic development for our region must achieve better opportunities for employment for you & your children. -In all decisions the council must consider the wider social, cultural, economic and environmental isses before quality long-term development can be achieved.
  3. Rates - Waitakere set the council controlled increase at 3.9% this year. Future decisions by the council around leaky buildings liabilities, the costs of amalgamation & new major road & rail projects, will fall on the ratepayers pockets. These decisions will have to be managed in partnership with central government, so that the burden can be spread over a longer timeframe.
  4. Improvements to roads & public transport -Rail electrification. -It is expensive, but essential to develop a good public transport system for the central urban area with more buses and trains. -The regional road connections need to be completed and improvements to our road network are also essential.
  5. Housing affordability & unhealthy homes -New housing must be about creating neighbourhoods & communituies with amenities & local employment opportunities. -The Auckland Spatial Plan must not support dominatory suburbs and cutting up communities with motorways. -A warm, dry & affordable home is a healthy home for you & your children.

  1. Community representation and maintaining the Waitakere Way (supporting local identity). "Your street, not Queen Street".
  2. No privatisation of public assets.
  3. A fair rating system.
  4. Care for the environment.
  5. Promoting and generating local opportunities and local intiatives to enhance our diverse cultures and communities.
  1. No 1 is to ensure that all local boards gain as much control and say over the issues in their communities as possible as soon as possible.
  2. No 2 is to act on issues raised by the community to ensure the best outcomes for the greater benefit of the whole community.
  1. Community: Strengthening and protecting our vibrant communities

We need to feel safe in West Auckland. I will not tolerate anti-social behaviour on our streets and in our communities, and will advocate vigorously for effective policing.

At the same time I will encourage and support arts, sport and cultural activities across West Auckland. Working collaboratively with community, cultural and sports groups to build the facilities that our neighbourhoods expect of a world-class city.
  2. Leadership: Leading positively and effectively

I will lobby Council to require full accountability from all Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs), and will expect them to deliver the best possible results for West Auckland.
  3. Affordability: Creating an affordable city to live and work in

Living in Auckland can be expensive. I am determined to minimise the burden on households and businesses both urban and rural by extracting savings from the new, streamlined council arrangements.

I will campaign to keeping Auckland Council rates as low as possible without decreasing the core services that residents expect.

I promise to deliver you better value for money.
  4. Transport: Making it easier to get around

I will commit to supporting essential public transport and roading infrastructure for people and goods.

At the same time I will ensure careful benefit cost consideration is undertaken before any ratepayers’ money is invested in these major projects.
  5. Environment: Preserving and enhancing the Auckland region’s environment

I am proud of our unique environment here in the West.

I will preserve and protect our environmental assets, while allowing individuals the freedom to enjoy and improve their urban and rural private property.

High quality design and planning will be encouraged together with the sensible management of growth and development.

  1. Transport - West Auckland is hugely dependent on the Northwestern Motorway to get around our city. For most West Aucklanders, public transport is not a realistic option, particularly if you live in West Harbour, Massey or Te Atatu. With the redevelopment of the Northwestern and the Hobsonville Deviation coming online shortly, there has never been a better time to build dedicated busways alongside the motorway in the west, similar to what North Shore residents enjoy. Better public transport helps everyone - it helps to free up the roads for those that need to drive (such as tradesmen). With most West Auckland workers traveling to other parts of Auckland to work every day, transportation out west needs some serious attention.
  2. Encouraging local businesses and industry to employ local workers and invest in our community - like most West Aucklanders, I travel to other parts of Auckland to work everyday. We need to encourage local business to employ more locals and put their profits back into our community. This can only be done through investment in local education and training, giving West Aucklanders the skills that local businesses need.
  3. Preservation of Local Facilities - It is hugely important that all West Auckland public faculties (such as pools, community centres, libraries and parks) remain publicly owned and well maintained under the Supercity.
  4. Costs. Rates are high. Good planning and good infrastructure are expensive but rates have been increasing by more than the rate of inflation for many years. If elected to the Board I will not have any power over the setting of the city's budgets but I will advocate for the reduction of expenses which cannot be justified.
  5. Strong West Auckland voice in order to preserve our unique identity - there's no debate; West Auckland is a great place to live. We need to preserve what makes West Auckland great, in particular, our diverse communities, the Waitakere Ranges and West Auckland beaches.

  1. Community representation - West Auckland needs a strong voice to ensure that Supercity resources allocated in a fair and equitable manner and that West Auckland does not miss out. Future West stands for "Your Street, Not Queen St".
  2. Retaining community assets - Public libraries, community houses, and other public assets should remain accessible by all West Aucklanders.
  3. No privatisation of water and no new waste water charges - Water is a basic human right. It shouldn't be sold off to the highest bidder and used for making a profit.
  4. Good public transport - With a single council, we have the opportunity to finally get public transport right.
  5. Accountability - Public officials are elected by you and are there to serve you. I believe that public officials should be accountable to the public and serve the public, rather than pandering to whims of a few select individuals and corporations, and serving themselves before their community.
