New Plymouth born and bred I have spent most of my life here, have raised my family here, and have no desire to live anywhere else. I have made the most of what New Plymouth has to offer and now its time to give something back.I am married to Sarah Tullett and we still have a teenager at home.

_______________________________________

Career wise – the first half was spent in education, teaching and managing, mainly in Taranaki – the second half [which is not yet over!] in my own business working with people in organisations / businesses throughout New Zealand supporting their efforts to get the best from themselves and their organisations.

_______________________________________

My most recent community involvement includes Like Minds Taranaki [Patron], and the Taranaki Arts Community Trust [TArt Gallery, Kinetika] . Over a number of years I have also been involved with community organisations focusing on youth, mental health, the arts, social services and employment.

Top 5 Issues

  1. Sustainable growth
    Economic, Social, Environmental, Cultural
Balancing growth with available resources, lifestyle demands, continued vibrancy and the requirements of an aging population. Balancing the support for local groups versus the 'big acts'. Not either/or but both.
  2. Infrastructure and amenities
Balancing the need to maintain and further develop infrastructure and amenities. Not one or the other but both - infrastructure and amenities! The walkway, the northern outlet, the Waitara pipeline, transportation and so on. Prioritising the spend within available resources.
  3. Priority, cost effectiveness and efficiency of delivery of council spending and services. Refreshing the tired areas of town.
  4. Transparency
    No secrets, no surprises
A return to active citizenship and citizen based conversation even if it does cause controversy.
  5. Developing an urban / district vision with the council / community leadership that will create and enable that vision to happen - as opposed to the present somewhat reactive approach. Developing leaders with vision, a clear grasp of reality, courage and ethics.
