Top 5 Issues
- The way council has lost touch with grass root community and their organisations. I want to be a strong voice at any council/community board table for the people who are the heart and soul of what makes this city tick
- The way high density low cost housing is springing up in the suburbs where we are losing the valuable land that allows for a family home with open green living spaces.
- Water and the need to ensure we continue to have clear and unobstructed access to the best fresh water available in the country.
- Roading to make sure our roads are managed in the best interest of all users with plenty of safe and user freindly cycleways for an increasing number of cyclists
- Making sure that any decsions I am required to make are in the best interest of the residents of Hagley/Ferrymead Ward who are ultimately reposible for my being elected I am bound to represent them to the best of my ability
Personal Profile
I have been actively involved with both working and fighting issues for my community for the past 15-20yrs
Currently involved as a member of MOP fighting Corrections Dept over the location of a Probation Centre in our community without undertaking any community consultation
Also fighting an on going air quality issue in the Phillipstown Community this has been on going for nearly 2yrs and I won't give up until our community gets the desired results to benefit our communities.
I have received recognition for my community commitments with a Volunteering Canterbury Award presented in 2004 and a Community service award presented by Hagley/Ferrymead Community Board in 2006
I was a volunteer helper with Te Ropu Tamariki After School program for 11yrs until it shut down due to lack of on going funding

Wayne Hawker's Reply
Yes I strongly believe that a candidate should live in the ward they wish to represent
It is the real way to get an undestanding of what your community groups issues are and how they want you as
their representitive to work to resolving any issue that arises.
I am proud to say I live and work for community groups in the Hagley/ferrymead ward for 30yrs so far
with no expectations of leaving
