I am a local Bay Boy of French, Maori and European heritage with two gorgeous girls and partner. As an author of 30 children's books (Kapai the Kiwi, Cuzzies, Scoop n Scribe) and a newspaper columnist and educator, I am connected to the community at a grass roots level. When it comes to hospitals and health I believe in a Billy T James and Dr Patch Adams philosophy, where laughter is the best medicine. I don't have a medical background but my 20 years experience working with children gives me a valuable insight into why the current epidemic of binge drinking, obesity and diabetes is crippling our health system. I will work tirelessly with our DHB to help implement the urgent changes needed. Our hospitals and health system needs a lot less drama and fear, and a lot more learning and laughter. Send in the clown, Vote Tommy Kapai.

Conflicts of Interest
To the best of my knowledge and belief, I have no conflicts of interest with the Bay of Plenty District Health Board at the date of my notice of consent to being nominated as a candidate for membership for the board of the District Health Board, and I do not believe that any such conflicts of interest are likely to arise in future.
