I am Canadian-born New Zealander and have been married to my wife Dana for 21 years. We have four children. I have lived in Dairy Flat for the past nine years, and enjoy living on a lifestyle block. I have sat on a school board and on a professional industry board in Canada.
I’ve been self-employed for the past 15 years and am all too familiar with the challenges families deal with on a daily basis. I am committed to contributing a local perspective on issues, and am passionate about preserving the lifestyle and values in the Dairy Flat community.
As an elected board member I will ensure that the Rodney Ward continues to advocate for our distinctive lifestyle and values. Regardless of the Super City debate, it is now the time to engage, represent and preserve our community.
Our local board will need to collaborate with the community, the governing body, council-controlled organisations and in particular Auckland Transport.
The local board will play a vital role in strengthening community representation and providing “local” perspectives to decisions that influence all of us.
The local board will oversee:
- Local facilities – such as community parks, halls, swimming pools, sports fields and libraries
- Local programmes and activities – such as local events, community arts and culture programmes, community advisory services and social housing initiatives
- Local services – such as graffiti control and cleaning programmes for the local area.
Our local board must play a key role in local place-shaping. In order to achieve this effectively, you need to elect people who make responsible, sensible decisions. I will do that.
The Rodney Ward is not like urban Auckland, we hold considerable local knowledge, and have close connections to our local community. Therefore some decision-making powers must be delegated beyond the scope above, and I will advocate for that.
As your advocate on the local board I will be your eyes and ears, and will be the conduit for raising issues with the Auckland Council.

Top 5 Issues
- Super City... Super Collaboration
Without a doubt, the first and main priority is to make it work!
This is a huge change in the way things were done in the past. Out with the old and bring on the new! All the previous grudges between ARC and other councils are over. We need a new relationship from the true grass roots Rodney local board through our Ward Councillor and right to the Auckland Council. To collaborate with the governing body, with the understanding that the governing body and local boards need to work together for the collective good of all Auckland. If we want to have more delegated powers we need to prove our community speaks volumes! - Community Voice
Public consultation starts from all the stakeholders and shareholders – i.e. all of us! Views from of all cultures, business associations, elderly, workers, families, health impaired and youth must be given consideration. - Economic Growth
Rodney needs to provide more local jobs and more opportunities to work closer to home which would result in having more valued time with our families and is better for road congestion. Our unique lifestyle supports home based business, self employment and tourism, we need to look at best practice and promote local business. Obviously affordable, fast broadband is a must have in every home. - Regulatory Activities
I want local boards to be involved in resource management hearings for their areas. Local boards should be involved because they have local knowledge and are therefore best placed to understand the impact. - Accountability
Our board must and will be transparent and accountable to the community and ratepayers with a focus on timely decisions and prudent budget management.
Personal Profile
My family originated from Kerikeri, my mother migrated to Canada and I am the youngest of 4. I grew up as normal as most in the 70’s, funny fashion and great music. My parents divorced and I was a difficult teen, left school and worked in Hospitality which peaked in 1986 when I was responsible for the largest food group at Vancouver’s World Expo ’86. I met and married my beautiful wife and moved to NZ in 1989, after a year my dad was ill in Canada so back we went... 2 kids and a decade later we returned to NZ in 1999. We created two more NZ born “true kiwi” kids and will never leave this beautiful country again!
