An unprecedented opportunity exists for greater Auckland as a combined single City to develop an aligned vision to ensure that our country’s largest economic centre contributes effectively to New Zealand’s future growth and, in so doing, is renowned as a World Class City for future generations.

To achieve this, Auckland must have an integrated strategic plan for the development of infrastructure and community services, while respecting and preserving our cultural diversity and uniqueness as New Zealanders.

Auckland could be “One of the World’s Greatest Cities”.  It is the gateway to New Zealand and is our country’s centre of economic output and main contributor to GDP.  By the year 2030, it is estimated that Auckland’s population will exceed 2 million people. This next three years of Governance will set the platform for the next 20 years – we need to get it right. 

Top 5 Issues

1. Transport:
   We need a visionary and courageous plan that gets Auckland moving, the funding for which can be achieved through better co-ordination with central Government and the raising of a public infrastructure fund.
2. Waterfront:
   I will champion the waterfront development and believe we have an opportunity to get this right - and in so doing – leave a legacy of pride and mana for generations to come.
3. Rates:
   I will apply my extensive experience in business mergers to work vigilantly to keeping rates capped as Auckland’s seven administrative bodies are merged into one. We must extract the savings to the benefit to ratepayers.
4. Crime:
   I need your vote to lead Council into a closer Partnership with Police and breathe life into ‘Safer Communities Together’
5. Young and Old
   As a parent, I want to leave our City in the best possible shape for the next generation and ask you to join me by supporting an initiative that enables teenagers and elders to work together in their local communities.

Tenby Powell is Director of Hunter Powell Investments Ltd, and the entrepreneurial force behind the success of Hirepool
and the NZ Rental Group. Which he grew from 14 branches into NZ’s rental equipment leader, with 84 business units and more than 500 staff.

Holding the rank of Lt Colonel in the NZ Army, service spanning 27 years in the regular and reserve forces. Including Deputy Chief of a United Nations unit based in South Lebanon and Commanding Officer of the Auckland Battalion.

Tenby co-chaired the 2009 Entrepreneurial Summit. And  serves on the Boards of Antarctica New Zealand and the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust.
