I came to Gt.Barrier Island in 1972 while hitchhiking around NZ, and fell in love with it immediately. Hector Sanderson persuaded me to buy a section, and the following summer I met my husband Tom, a local boy. We married in 1974 and now have five children and four grandchildren. Over the years we have started and eventually sold five businesses which are all still active today. I am currently studying Organic Horticulture through NorthTec at Medlands, and this has led to a new passion around Permaculture and ecology. I am putting myself forward because I think I have a good understanding of Barrier life, particularly the community and the local economy. I am learning about the island's ecology. Combined with my evolving passion for things organic and my enduring love for the island I hope I offer balance.
