SIMON “SWAMPY” MARSH will bring a new voice to a council in desperate need of fresh blood. He is a person with business skills and community conscience. Swampy and his family are Miramar Peninsular locals. He supports local shops, schools and sport. He still hasn’t caught a snapper off Miramar Wharf. Following his years as the voice of Wellington radio, Simon runs a successful company assisting Wellington businesses to grow and become more successful. Swampy regularly offers his business skills and voice to the community. He involves himself with Enterprise Miramar Peninsula, City Mission, Hospice, and Salvation Army. He has been a board member of Autism NZ, and Wellington Museums Trust Board. His focus is on; RELIEVING Eastern Ward traffic (Airport, sports stadium, tunnel), LISTENING to our older community members (Kilbirnie community centre), FOSTERING a fertile business environment and ENCOURAGING young people to achieve.

Top 5 Issues

  1. Councillors that take the time to listen to the people that they represent.
  2. Traffic, it's not about focusing on one form of transport alone. Private, public, pedestrian and bikes all have a place and we need an integrated plan including all modes of travel.
  3. Revitalisation of suburban centres such as Kilbirnie and Miramar paying particular attention to those that work, shop and socialise in the areas.
  4. Searching out ways to improve Wellington's business environment, minimising red tape, facilitating changes in technology etc. Successful business results in better community facilities, libraries, sports clubs, and community centres.
  5. Ensuring we enjoy a safe city, its clean harbour, its scenery, entertainment and its successes. Promoting a pride and respect in our own suburbs, caring for our environment so that we all become champions of Wellington.

Personal Profile

A reformed biochemist turned broadcaster Simon “Swampy” Marsh was one of a small group of business people responsible for launching the MoreFM group of radio stations.  Nine years ago he exchanged his 4am alarm clock and award winning breakfast show to run a successful radio advertising and marketing business with his partner Chrissie.

Swampy and his family are peninsular locals.  He is involved in local schools, businesses, and sport and community groups.  He and Chrissie have two children.  His married daughter Felicity is an executive at Saatchi and Saatchi in Wellington and Sam (mini Swamp) went to school here and is now studying at Victoria University, he refuses to leave home.

Simon is a local through and through, he buys his lotto ticket at the Strathmore Four Square, he cycles around the bays (sometimes at 5.30am), walks their Golden Retriever where dogs are allowed, enjoys coffee in local cafes but, has yet to catch that snapper off Miramar wharf.
