Kia ora,
I’m standing for Nelson City Council on the request of the community and whanau of Nelson. They believe I have the ability and experience to stand up and advocate on their behalf because they want their voices and aspirations heard at the council table. The time is right now to get that representation and move Nelson forward together in a mana enhancing manner and participate in the governance of this city.
“If we keep doing the same thing we will keep getting the same results.”
Top 5 Issues
- Governance/ Leadership
Governance:"The foundation of any organisation is transparency. Openness is the basis of public confidence in the Council and confidence will flow to leadership that inspires trust.
Lets give our young and senior people the opportunity to participate in the governance of the city by creating associate councillor roles that will allow direct advice to the council table.
"Leadership: is a two way street, loyalty up loyalty down. respect for ones colleagues and care for ones community."
- Infrastructure
"Infrastructure is a necessary prerequisite for economic growth. It has a direct impact on investment, the creation of employment and, as a consequence, the improvement of the living conditions of the people of Nelson."
"The future amount for investment in Nelson City infrastructure is enormous and cannot be accomplished by public budgets alone . I believe vast portions of this investment can be made by private investors. Now, it is also very clear that private capital is ready."
- Economy
"The challenge is to provide a conducive investment environment in the city: If we want to attract investment locally we must offer attractive conditions to local investors. Lets keep the checks and balances but take away the red tape - lets make it easy to say yes!"
"Local solutions to local issues-lets buy local! buy local produce! use local services and business! Lets keep the money local by investing locally also in our NZ banks."
"Council can lead the way by encouraging a locally perferred supplier policy on all aqusitions for goods and services."
- Culture
"I believe that the council need to work in partnership with Maori to enact the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Full recognition is accorded to iwi and their lands, waters, fisheries, language and other taonga. When this trust is forthcoming it will be reciprocated."
"I believe that council needs to respect the diverse cultures of people who are recent arrivals and the contributions they make to this city by according a voice for these people to be heard at a governance level."

For 25 Years I have worked in public, private and community sectors in Nelson and the Top of the South region. The experience developed during this period has provided me with the technical skills for informed decision making at the strategic level.
