Personal Profile
My name is Seann Paurini and I am standing in the 2010 local body elections as a candidate for the Southern Ward of Wellington. I want to be given the chance to help lift the social, health and welfare needs of our people - especially people who are under-utilised in our community - seniors, folks with disabilities and families and individuals on low-incomes.
About me
I volunteer as an advocate and try to help out folks who have various problems to sort out with government agencies like Work and Income, ACC and the DHB or youths facing court, prisons, having housing problems and so forth.
I have a BA (Honours) in Women & Gender Studies & Education and an MA in Education. I have spent the last fifteen years working in a variety of roles at Victoria University having held positions in administration, as a lecturer, teaching fellow and researcher. In my roles I have provided pastoral care and academic advice to students and training to beginning tutors.
I am an uncle and cousin to several young ones. I spend as much time as I can with all of them as they have really hopeful perspectives on life and I like to learn as much as I can from them - we learn from each other, I’m a great believer in mutual aid between the generations.
Why you should vote for me
Please think seriously about supporting me.
I want to make life accessible, healthier and more worthwhile for the people of the Southern Ward & Wellington. The reality is that some of the changes I’m keen on will require strong public support. I will have one vote on council. And while I will be working alongside colleagues on council and largely supporting the work that needs to be done for the day to day running of Wellington, I will call on the people’s voice and the people’s action when big issues come up.
I want to provide an example to the Wellington region and the rest of the country. I am a different sort of candidate. While I am not a seasoned politician, I am a strong advocate for ordinary people. A diverse Wellington City Council is needed now more than ever.
If elected, I will work smartly, creatively and consistently with the public interest in sight. I’ll need you to advise and guide me, to tell me off if I’m not doing the job right, to let me know when I’m doing good.
I will work full-time for the city. I am very open to working alongside reasonable people who support a revival of Wellington’s strong community spirit, I think a piece of that has disappeared and I want to get it back.
Thanks very much for taking the time to learn about my campaign. I appreciate your consideration.
Passion + Integrity = Talent
You should vote for me because I am passionate and I have integrity:
· The council needs new voices
· I think of people first - community is my priority
· If I make a mistake while on the job I’ll be up-front about it
· I will engage with the community before making major decisions
I ask you to consider voting for me in the upcoming local body elections.
Thanking you,
