My wife and I are both fourth generation Islanders living at Okiwi with our three children. At aged twelve I left the Barrier for Boarding School before training as a Welder Steel Fabricator and later attending University where I gained Tertiary Qualification in Agriculture. After a couple of stints back on the Farm we worked in Auckland and the BOP before heading overseas to work and travel. There is no place in the world like the Barrier. We returned permanently in 2002. There is a lack of both economic and employment opportunities on the Island. We need to encourage more permanent residents to make our local 'winter' economy stronger, further promote our Island as a beautiful and fun place for Tourists to visit while still maintaining it for the reasons we all choose to live here. I believe I will bring a balanced common sense voice to our Community Board.
