GIVING OUR COMMUNITY A VOICE IS WHAT I AM ALL ABOUT!!

Its time we were listened to Locally before and after the elections!!!

I love living in Mt Albert. My family have lived and been actively involved in Albert/Eden for five generations! My great Uncle Frank Turner was the mayor of Mt Albert in 1965, and I am the next generation stepping up to serve this wonderful community!

I have been raised, educated and now work in Mt Albert managing and teaching at a popular local Early learning centre. I am dedicated to seeing this community become the best it can possibly be for the next generation!

I am also well travelled (first, second and third world communities) and deeply value all ethnic groups in our community.

I am well informed of the issues and challenges that affect the people of Albert/Eden, and believe our community needs a passionate fresh new face to listen and represent them. I have strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, and have a natural rapport with people; vital qualities that will facilitate us having the best possible Albert/Eden community.

My main areas of interest are the local environment, families, education, community services and traffic issues.

I believe in the core values of C and R, and believe that I would be an outstanding local representative.  I am a well known identity in Mt Albert, motivated, passionate and absolutely dedicated to the people of our community.

I strongly believe in putting community first, keeping rates affordable, investing in public transport, and empowering local comminities to make decisions on matters that affect them directly.

I want to be part of the team that would make Auckland City attractive enough for young professionals.

I will work towards making Owairaka a safe and vibrant community for everyone

I will support youth initiatives that will effectively keep young people from falling into a life of crime, and will assist them in getting into productive roles.

I would remain accessible to the people of Owairaka and support every initiative that is beneficial and cost effective to our community.

I am standing with CITIZENS AND RATEPAYERS supporting our other wonderful local board candidates:

Murray Doreen

Claudette Hauiti

Cameron Morris

I am also supporting our fantastic councillor candidates:

Christine Fletcher

Paul Goldsmith

They are all amazing people!

VOTE FOR A GREATER OWAIRAKA. VOTE CITIZENS AND RATEPAYERS

Top 5 Issues

  1. Accountability:
    HONESTY HONESTY AND HONESTY!

  2. Community:
STRENGTHENING AND PROTECTING OUR VIBRANT COMMUNITY

Citizens and Ratepayers recognise the individual neighbourhoods and cultural communities that combine as the fabric of the Owairaka subdivison.

We need to feel safe in our community. I will not tolerate anti-social behaviour on our streets and in our communities, and will advocate vigorously for effective policing.

I will encourage and support arts, sport and cultural activities across our neighbourhoods. I will work collaboratively with community, cultural and sports groups to help build amazing facilities.

Our multi-cultural communities are at the heart of our unique culture. My team will strengthen our rich culture working with Maori and local Iwi, with Pasifika, and other ethnic and community groups. We will promote and invest in programmes that celebrate the things we share and recognise our diversity - both of which will make Owairaka the best place to live.
  3. Environment:
    PRESERVING AND ENHANCING OUR ENVIRONMENT

We are proud of our unique environment, with its combination of Beautiful beaches, creeks, waterfalls, Volcanoes, parks, local farm and schools as well as the architectural heritage across the area

I will ensure we preserve and protect our environmental assets, while allowing individuals the freedom to enjoy and improve their urban and rural private property.

High quality low-cost designs and planning will be encouraged together with the sensible management of growth and development.

We will advocate for stricter vehicle emissions standards to improve our Region’s air quality, and enhance the water quality in all our streams and beaches.
  4. Affordability:
CREATING AN AFFORDABLE AREA TO LIVE AND WORK IN

You know that living in this area can be expensive. I am determined to minimize the burden on households and businesses by extracting savings from the new, streamlined council arrangements.

As a team Citizens and Ratepayers will channel investment into the essential infrastructure our local communities need. We will commit to keeping our rates as low as possible without decreasing the core services that residents expect.

We will deliver you better value for money. We will keep Auckland Council spending under control by focusing on core local government activities and services. We will focus on essential Auckland Council services and not duplicate central government’s welfare functions locally.

Water and waste water costs will be kept to the minimum necessary to maintain a world class system
  5. Transport:
MAKING IT EASIER TO GET AROUND

Citizens and Ratepayers will invest in transport options which enable more of us to move around more conveniently.

We will commit to essential public transport and roading infrastructure for people and goods. An effective single ticketing system for public transport will be implemented.

We will ensure that the new Auckland Transport agency works constructively with central government to complete the motorway network and major arterial routes across the Region.

We will ensure careful benefit cost consideration is undertaken before ratepayers’ money is invested in these major projects.

Personal Profile

I am in my mid Twenties and have lived in Mt Albert for the duration of my life.

I am a professional early childhood educator working for the last 8 years in the education field and currently manage a private centre “Kids Forever Christian Preschool” located in the heart of Mt Albert.

We are a popular preschool with a well earned reputation; our waiting lists extend well into 2011. I am at present supporting and coaching several training teachers on a volunteer basis as they work towards their early childhood degrees. Unitec Institute of technology located in Mt Albert is provider of this qualification; they have recognized the work and time Managers put into training their students and so have offered all expenses paid higher education courses for myself and other support teachers. Next year I envision myself studying part time working towards a Masters in Education Management and Leadership.

I am heavily involved in Mt Albert Baptist as a worship leader and where needed, in the children’s programmes offered. I have been a valuable part of previous years after-school education programmes. Through the church I have been a part of community help programmes, such as the recent working bee at the local school Mt Albert primary, many of the murals I voluntarily designed and painted as requested by the school were featured in June’s central leader Newspaper.

Over the years I have been voluntarily active in working with a NGO organization based in Mt Eden, providing school holiday programmes for hundreds of disadvantaged children for up to 8 weeks a year. I have been a volunteer at a local retirement village, singing, playing the piano and doing everything i can to brighten up the lives of there local residents.

Mt Albert has an community Christmas event now run every year called “Christmas in rocket park “attracting thousands of local families and their children. I have been and will continue to take an active leadership role in this event.

I believe in the core values of C and R, and believe that I would be an outstanding local representative, and team player for the organization.  I am a well known identity in Mt Albert, motivated, passionate and absolutely dedicated to the people of our community.

If you live in the Owairaka subdivision of Albert-Eden-Roskill ward: Please Vote Councillors Chris Fletcher, Paul Goldsmith and Local Board Members myself, Murray Dorreen, Claudette Hauiti and Cameron Morris.

We will give you a voice and care about what you have to say!!!
