I am a Barrier resident and current Board member. I have wide national and international business and work experience. Over the past three years I've concentrated on planning issues, ensuring we keep our own board, making changes to the rating system, and I played a major role in developing the Arts & Heritage village. There's still a lot to do: Planning − We must let people do reasonable things without unreasonable costs and compliance problems; Economic Development − There's a lot of practical projects: beach restoration, gorse clearance, pest control, environmental education − and with regional and national commitment; Rating issues − The rating system must be fair and reflect the Council's restrictions on land−use on the island; Governance − We need a strong and independent local board.
