Rattan Prakash has lived in New Zealand since 1987; a cherished resident of Upper Hutt.

Rattan, works in the community as the Executive Officer for the NZ Federation Multicultural Councils, has shown diversity working as a community leader, mentor, trainer and caring friend to those in need.

His tireless, dedicated and exemplary work at the  community radio, interpreting and interfaith assemblies have been recognized by many in the migrant and refugee communities.

Rattan advocates and promotes the development  of a  framework in our community to support multiculturalism.

He is often the first point of  call for relief work in the community when it comes to calamities and disasters locally and in the South Pacific.

Rattan is issues focused, approachable and favours sustainable resolutions within the region. 

As your Councilor, he aspires to maintain the heritage and environment of Upper Hutt making it second to none; modern, safe and vibrant city.

Successful Settlement - To promote good settlement practices for the development of an inclusive society by helping newcomers settle quickly and contribute to the economic, social and cultural dimensions of life in their new country. Equally, help host communities to understand that efforts to assist newcomers to settle are important for the country as a whole.
  2. Children and Youth - Community services connecting young people to a range of services that are aimed to improve the safety, health and wellbeing.
