Vast change for me means ‘moving forward’ with absolute focus and willingness to work hard. The residents of Manurewa deserve a great deal more than empty words therefore I pledge; I will work extremely hard with diligence and commitment. The new governance as part of a wider Auckland will be a challenge, I am mindful of entering into a much larger and complex system of how Manurewa is represented.
Sharing my experience and knowledge with people who hold similar views, Team Manurewa will provide leadership; energy; and common sense. The unique characteristics of Manurewa must be protected, we must preserve what we enjoy now and advocate for much more.
I served nine years on the Community Board, (1998-2007);
three years as Deputy Chairperson, Resource hearings committee member; and board representative on Manurewa Business Association, Safer Communities, Police Consultative, youth prison liaison and others.
Resident of Manurewa and independent Celebrant. Thank you
Top 5 Issues
- Safety of our community.
Founder of Counties Victim Support in the 1990s gave way to learning and understanding as to how our communities, families and businesses are effected by criminals. We need to feel safe in our daily lives, criminal activity in and amongst where we live, work and play in intolerable. Working with the Police is a priority, supporting community initiatives such as crime patrols, neighbourhood support, and educating our young will be the challenge. - Privatisation of water.
Water is a natures given resource for all, it is not a comodity for sale or profit. We need water to survive and although we need to take care to ensure no diseases are spread etc, and accept there are some costs associated in order to distribute water throughout our community. The care of water should remain in the care of our councils. - Rate and user charges.
All residents over the age of 65 should receive a generous rebate. If they have privately owned property for 20 years or more, a return on their social investment is deserving. - Voters know what issues are important to them, it is not for the politicians to decide what they are.
- Changing something that has worked to something that may not; from local community involvement to large dictatorship style of local government. Will our sence of community be lost?

Thank you for your question in regard to another prison being built in Manurewa.
There are a number of reasons why people are opposed to the prison, my own personal view on this is not the issue.
As an elected member representing the people of Manurewa I need to listen to what the majority want, and I would support that.
Personally I have several concerns over safety, when in discussions over the establishment of the Liquid Petroleum Gas facility I recall
the concerns expressed over allowing any residential buildings being built within 3-5 kilometres from the depot. Subsequently the Petroleum Storage
facility was built and many other industrial industries have been developed. Combining the industrial risk factors along with two correctional facilities already
established I can only hope that these factors are taken into account. The evacuation procedures for the safety of the residents would be a
logistical nightmare.
