John is a self−employed company director working in environmental, project and property management sectors. He is married to Jan: they have five children and five grandchildren. In 2007 John and Jan established the highly successful business: "The Whitehouse Cafe & Gallery" creating employment for their children and extended whanau.
John has business and governance experience spanning over twenty five years, including roles at regional, central government and five current Chairmanships for Puawairua Marae, Ngati Awa Customary Fisheries Authority, Creative Eastbay (Te Taurapa a Toi), National Eel Working Party and Deputy Chairman for Te Tapatoru a Toi (Ngatiawa − DOC Joint Management Board). John is a founding Trustee for the Whakatane Kiwi Trust and has been involved in the Whakatane Kiwi Project since its inception.
