My political involvement over the past 25 years has
given me an insight into critical matters relating to
transport, resource management, bureaucracy, and
balancing the need for growth and environmental
protection. As the current Mayor of Rodney, I am
acutely aware of the need for economic growth for
this new Rodney ward, especially as it represents the
coastal and rural lifestyle of Auckland's new 'super city'.
Rodney must be heard − it must have a strong voice representing one of
the city's largest yet least populated rural areas. Our residents want a fair
deal. My achievements include: President of the Auckland Federated
Farmers; Auckland Conservation Board Member; ARC Environment
Committee Member; Member of Parliament; Rodney Economic
Development Trust Board Member; Northern Ward Rodney District
Councillor; First woman elected Mayor of Rodney District Council;
Member of the first technical advisory group for RMA reforms.

Top 5 Issues

  1. 1. Making the new city structure work
  2. 2. Fair rates for all of Auckland residents along with equitable services
  3. 3. Affordable solutions to transport -both roads and public transport
  4. 4. Creating a healthy economic environment through planning and better consenting
  5. 5. Protecting the environment in a sustainable manner

How will we be heard?

I know full well what you have been waiting for. The continuation of the AMP grounds is in the Long Term Plan which will be taken over by the Auckland Council. The building is in that plan. It will happen. At least for the first time we have a venue which we didn\\\'t before.

Should we sell our forests?

Rodney District has not sold off any forestry blocks and did not intend to.

I have no problem with the Regional Park network as long as its affordable. Recent purchase of the block near Wendaholm was puzzling as the ARC was working with RDC on land at Te Arai. This was to stop development of a very sensistive area. Also the Park at South Head has no money for development ( toliets alking tracks etc and is vertually un-useable. That is not a sensible solution either
