Patrick Brown, 55 − factory worker, union member, of the Communist League ticket with mayoral and council candidate, Annalucia Vermunt. We stand on a working−class programme. The capitalists here and across New Zealand and the globe are making working people pay for their crisis. Some 170,000 unemployed; scapegoating of beneficiaries; anti−union proposals; troops in Afghanistan−these are pieces of their offensive. Our response: Jobs for all. No cuts to social services. No to police brutality. Full rights for immigrants. Withdraw all NZ armed forces from Afghanistan and the Pacific. Unions must resist the bosses' offensive, defend unity by combating race and sex discrimination, and break from the capitalist parties. To stop the rightward march to depression and more wars, workers and our allies must wrest the reins of political power from the capitalists.
