Your vote for me will ensure careful leadership.

The global financial crisis has drawn us back to re-question costs and promote efficiencies.

I have served eighteen years on the Western BOP District Council with a proven record
and wide experience. I have promoted and been part of the team approach for co-operation
within the sub-region. This has resulted in a planned path forward for an expected doubling
of the population within fifty years.

I will take this experience and knowledge to use it for the betterment of our region.
We have an exciting future. Balancing growth with environmental sustainability and
affordability requires community understanding and input.

Dairyfarmers at Omokoroa, my wife Maureen and I have three adult sons and their families.
I have enjoyed serving the community and seek your support as a candidate for Bay of Plenty Regional
Council. Call me on 5480 617.

Personal Profile

Who Am I?

Born, raised, educated and resident in the Western Bay of Plenty. Diary-farming with family at Omokoroa, first with parents then with wife Maureen, we have now handed over farming operations to one of our three adult sons and his family.

I am a Past Leader in BOP Dairy Section of Federated Farmers and Church Leadership including Youth Work. A Past Director of Town Milk Company. Awarded Lincoln University Rural Scholarship, Ratepayers Association Chairman, a continuing Rotary service for 24 years with Paul Harris Fellowship Award. I have appreciated the Community support to be a District Councillor at Western BOP District Council for 18 years. In that time I have been an active advocate with Council for the introduction and upgrade of sewerage schemes across the Western BOP. Also the move to potable ground water for reticulation to a large percentage of our population which has moved the grading from D and E up to A- and Bb as well as giving security of supply and quality, whilst eliminating the risk of contamination. There have been huge improvements achieved in roading standards across the district including driving down of costs by innovative contracting.

Some major milestones in Council's achievements which I have been heavily involved in, have been the vital collaborative forward planning across the sub-region of the three Councils with Tangata Whenua; planning for the expected doubling of the population over the next fifty years. This includes allowance for the major demographic changes of an aging population.  Other major milestones were the purchase and development of Papamoa Hills and Huharua Regional Parks. I have a proven record of service on all Committees at Western Bay Council; by using consultation with citizens concerned and obtaining consensus with Councillors.

What do I Stand For?

I am a practical forward-thinker looking for holistic realistic achievable solutions.  I am pleased that the name Regional Council has been re-established as to me there are four environments:- *Economic  *Natural   *Social and  *Cultural.

Economic development can be fostered and managed in a sustainable way, e.g. the Kiwifruit Industry forward planning for a trebling of production. By working with industry, the management of resources e.g. water, transportation, housing, and employment, can be achieved effectively and efficiently. By working with landowners and users, our rivers, waterways, lakes and harbours can be improved. Upcoming Treaty settlements will also have a huge impact on our economy.

More important than my proven record of achievements, strong values and stamina for the job, is my strong vision for the future. I am passionate about our District, one of the fastest growing regions. I stand for listening to you, working together for the betterment of each individual community, ever mindful of these uncertain economic times and the effect on each of us. Having been an Omokoroa ratepayer for over 40 years, I am also ever mindful of Ratepayer's needs and rights which my record of service to the various diverse communities demonstrates. It is only by working closely with our communities that we are able to tackle the issues effectively.

I would ask you to seriously consider voting for me. I can assure you of continued enthusiastic advocacy for rural and urban in this, our area we are fortunate to live in and enjoy. I offer independent positive thinking and objective strategic planning. I work conscientiously with vision, responsive to the needs of the people I represent; always willing and available to listen; approachable and genuine. Call me on 5480617 to discuss any issues.

I thank voters for their past support as a District Councillor and wish to give further continuing service to the citizens of this area by serving  as one of your Western Bay Constituency Councillors on the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
