Nigel Armstrong has experience and skills in private sector business, education and self employment that he intends to draw on in order to help people and organisations voice their concerns about issues affecting their wellbeing.
Along with a team of like-minded representatives, Nigel brings his understanding and experience of problem-resolution to help people look at issues in a practical way, with a view to moving forward to satisfactory outcomes.
A graduate of Auckland University, Nigel has spent almost all his working life based in Auckland and the North Shore, whilst living on the North Shore.
As an active cricketer, golfer and bowler, he has held prominent roles in club management in all three codes, and is keenly supportive of creating and maintaining strong sports entities that can provide outlets for healthy recreation.
Nigel is also interested in supporting the arts and cultural pursuits valued by people on the Shore, and in maintaining an environment that residents can be proud of, and that visitors find appealing.
Top 5 Issues
- TRANSPORT FOR EVERYONE: Public transport should be reliable, affordable and frequent, providing real travel choices and making it easier for people to leave their cars at home. Critical to this is a smartcard integrated fare system.
- OUR ENVIRONMENT: We must protect our most valuable asset and put it at the heart of our decision-making. Our concern is to ensure that our pristine beaches, bush reserves and open spaces remain a priority in future planning.
- PROPER REPRESENTATION: We must listen to the concerns of the people and report fairly on the issues they identify.
- OUR COMMUNITIES: We must protect the “jewels” in our communities that make them special places to work, rest and play. Promoting sporting activities are an essential feature of healthy communities, and our libraries need to be preserved as valued centres for learning and inspiration.
- FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Careful use of rates revenue and other council funds is our chief consideration. Funding decisions must be based on community benefit and value for money.
