Neil Collins is an experienced, conscientious Dunedin City Councillor. Currently deputy chair, Planning and Environment, he also serves on Infrastructure Services, Economic Development, Community Development and Finance and Strategy Committees. He is a trustee of Age Concern; Fortune Theatre board member and Otago Radio Association life member. Neil instigated free parking for senior ratepayers 75 plus. He has advocated for a South Dunedin library, a sustainable environment and safer inner city streets by promoting and supporting the use of CCTV cameras. Mindful of citizens' concern over city debt and rates Neil Collins voted consistently against the full upgrade of the Town Hall, changes to city parking and urged Council to 'hold' the Harbourside project until a more favourable economic climate. Neil Collins was awarded the Queen's Service Medal in 1990 and Officer Of New Zealand Order Of Merit medal in 2009 for services to the Community, Broadcasting and Local Government.
