Mike Kake is of Ngapuhi descent from the hapu of Ngati Hau and Ngati Hine with strong links to the Whangarei hapu of Te Parawhau.

Mike believes there is a critical need to bring together iwi, community and businesses to address issues of unemployment, climate change, natural resource depletion and environmental management.

He is standing for Northland Regional Council because he believes his experience can help the council embrace the Treaty relationship and lead community focused enterprises to achieve sustainable economic development. For example Mike has for many years promoted the need for a green waste composting facility in Northland.

He has a background in sales and marketing and continues to work in the community through Pehiaweri Marae.

Mike is currently the General Manager at Ngati Hine FM radio station, Chair of Rewa Rewa D Incorporation and a Trustee of Te Runanga O Nga Puhi.

He lives in Onerahi with his wife Kathryn.
