Vote for a Strong Community Voice

I am standing with the ROSKILL COMMUNITY VOICE team for the Puketapapa Local Board.

Ours is a team of local people who care about local issues. Our total focus is on giving Mt Roskill a voice in the new Supercity. We need new leadership in Mt Roskill to speak up for our community, and that is what we will deliver.

I am a long term Roskill South resident, a married father of two, and a professional negotiator. An active member of our community I serve as; President of Lynfield/Roskill-South Plunket, Roskill Union Health Board member, Manukau foreshore pest control volunteer, Residents Association Chairperson, Church Vestry member, and am a former Council Member of MIT.

Speaking up for Mt Roskill is important to me and I have actively campaigned against the wasteful demolition of Monte Cecilia School, in favour of greater community control of new liquor outlets, and for a fairer rates system. I strongly support public ownership of our community assets.

We need a Board with new blood and energy.  As a Board member I commit to listening to local residents and being a strong voice for the Mt Roskill community. Vote for our community: vote the whole ROSKILL COMMUNITY VOICE team for Puketapapa Board and CITY VISION for Council.

Top 5 Issues

  1. Winning a fair go for Mt Roskill. For too long our community has been overlooked and has not had a fair share of our city's resources.
We will fight for better resourcing for our community and we will deliver better footpaths, roads, parks, and upgraded local facilities.
  2. Re-vitalising our run-down town centre. The shopping strip on Dominion Rd should be at the heart of our community, but it hase been badly neglected.
We will work with the community to develop a proper plan to revitalise our town centre, and we will not take away parking spaces as C&R proposed.
  3. Making our community safer. We will tackle the causes of crime by tackling inequality, helping our people get into good jobs, and working with our young people to provide better opportunities.
We will also invest in better lighting and security where it is needed in our community.
  4. I am disgusted by the C&R Council's forcible eviction of Monte Cecilia school. C&R have not told us how much it is costing the public, but we know it runs into the tens of millions.
This pet project should be stopped and if elected I will do everything that I lawfully can to stop the eviction of the school and to save the public millions of dollars.
  5. Really tackling alcohol related issues in our community. the government has not take decisive action so it falls to the local community to solve our problems.
We will give local residents the right to have a say about the establishment of liquor outlets in their neighbourhood, and we will campaign for a local liquor licensing trust so that our community can truly control liquor distribution in our area.

Personal Profile

Local Dad of two young sons with experience as a professional negotiator.

Active in the community in a wide range of groups from Church Vestry to Plunket, local residents association to Board of Roskill Union Health. Significant governance experience on a range of other bodies in cluding Council of Manukau Institute of Technology and the Auckland Regional Economic Development Strategy (AREDS) Forum member.

I am driven by a strong set of personal principles and a belief in public service. I am a practicing Christian with a strong belief in social justice and a fair go for everyone in our community. It is essential that people elected to central and local government stand up for what is good for the community, and not vested interests. To this end I am a strong supporter of public ownership, better public transport, and delegating powers down to local communities.

I believe that Local government must be an active voice for the local community, and as a Board member will be prepared to stand up for Mt Roskill.
