My vision for Dunedin is that it becomes the most desirable place to live in New Zealand. We must retain our young families and attract more people and businesses here. Arts and culture must be fostered. We cannot allow our Fortune Theatre and Sinfonia to slip from us. Our heritage strategy must be fully implemented. Our walkways and cycling accessing tracks can be further upgraded and our targeted urban improvement projects such as in South Dunedin and the North End must be extended to other areas. Our education, medical, commercial and small business infrastructure must be supported to the utmost.
Everyone deserves to have their opinions heard and considered adequately. I accept frankly that there is much room for improvement in this field. I undertake to address this issue from day one.
Let us bind Dunedin into one powerful community force, debating individual differences of opinion but reaching a consensus upon informed consultation.
Top 5 Issues
- Keeping rates as low as possible without reducing services.
- Heritage strategy implemented and a strong design control strategy developed.
- Sand dune issue at middle beach and the whole length from Lawyer's Head to St Clair resolved by a sculpted back sand dune area in a large part of the middle as recommended by the engineers. This could become a real asset to the City.
- A powerful "Beautification of Dunedin" strategy put into place involving all citizens, businesses, property owners and institutions.
- Better cycling and public transport facilities
