Efficiency             Productivity            Innovation

I see the role of a Waiuku Sub board member to be a vigilant watchdog of the Auckland Council and particularly the Council Controlled Organisations. As a minority it will be a huge challenge to be heard. I want to take on that challenge.

I am approachable, have good common sense, and the ability to think laterally.  I am conscientious and responsible about decision making. I am able to debate confidently and I can listen. I have the time and opportunity to concentrate on local events and issues.

The idea behind creating a Supercity is to pool resources in order to achieve whats needed. The new council needs to be  more efficient with its resources to ensure everyone gets their fair share and without rate hikes, more productive to reduce the time it takes to do things and more innovative to achieve these goals.

What I will not support:

Rate increases to find more than our fair share of dept or leaky homes. We have less that 10 leaky homes in Franklin, Auckland has 1000’s

Our debt per person is the lowest.  I will not support big spend big debt policies. Have we not learnt our lesson from the Global recession?

I will not support the privatisation of council services such as water.

What i will support

Policies to foster local economic development. We need to provide incentives for Businesses to move into Waiuku, to boost the economy and provide better employment opportunities for those living in our rural areas.

Better public transport.

Opportunities for our young people.

Infrastructure bonds and tolls to fund central Auckland’s development.

Top 5 Issues

  1. Make informed and efficient decisions on behalf of local communities. This involves working together to come up with innovative and sustainable solutions that meet the needs of different stakeholders.

Another vital communication role is to monitor council controlled organisations. One way to keep rates down is to make sure ratepayers are getting value for money for products and services.

A third vital communication channel is to ensure community interest groups receive timely information about contestable funding. With the new Supercity structure there will likely be more opportunity but also more competition.
  2. The development of innovative solutions for public transport for example, to enhance tourism opportunities.
  3. The setting up of community led broadband provisioning to increase economic opportunities in our area and the ability to work from home. A dedicated project is needed to get the numbers and funding to make it affordable and again it needs to be innovative.
  4. The development of a sustainable long term plan for the Manukau Harbour that covers conservation, development and guardianship.
  5. The development of a tourism package to make sure we make the most of the Rugby World Cup opportunity. We have huge potential a great little town, the harbour, the coast the landscape the people and proximity to downtown Auckland. Use this as a catalyst. Let’s make the most of it!
