Mayor:
After three terms on the NPDC I'm ready to be Mayor.
For me, this means having a vision for the future, understanding business, being financially prudent, be experienced in Local Government with contacts in Central Government, be a Diplomat to meet our international visitors and above all, lead a team of Councillors that represent our community. I believe that I fulfil those requirements.
'A Leader must have the respest of the team, and respect the team'.
My business background, the number of organisations I'vechaired and my past sporting achievements confirm this.A Council I lead will be positive, creative and will build on our rich history− our 'can do' confidence of the past − with careful attention to costs. People in business and industry see a real future here. So do I.
Councillor:
I have served three terms on the New Plymouth District Council. My committee roles have included − Policy, Monitoring, Police Liaison and earlier on the Investment Sub−Committee which monitors the TIML perpetual fund. I'm an Accredited RMA Hearings Commissioner. I currently represent the NPDC on the Taranaki Regional Council Policy Committee. This provides additional information which helps planning of this District.
A Councillor is elected to represent the whole District. Although I'm standing for re−election for the New Plymouth ward, it has been necessary to attend to matters across the District − something I have been willing to do. My focus this term will be on the future vision for the District. I will be active on the Annual Budget and Long Term Plan with emphasis on total costs. I see this as an extension of my business strengths due to the information I receive in my professional role.
