Leonie Gill is a longstanding Rongotai resident. Prior to becoming a City Councillor, she was employed as a Draughtsperson with a leading Engineering Firm, for many years.

Leonie has been associated with local community groups and chaired the committee which opposed the sale of Wellington Airport shares. She remains opposed to the sale of strategic assets.

Leonie has a strong interest in Resource Management and now chairs the Regulatory Processes Committee. She is the Council representative on the Pacific Advisory Group.  She achieved getting back the Leisure Card for seniors.

Leonie strongly supports projects for the Eastern Suburbs. Maintenance and upgrades of basic services are a priority. Growing traffic issues in the Eastern Suburbs must be addressed. Planning issues are addressed through the review processes of the District Plan and she wants to see this continue.

To inform her actions, Leonie consults regularly by letter and leaflets, listens and acts.

Personal Profile

My name is Leonie Gill. I am a current Eastern Ward councillor on the Wellington City Council.

I am the eldest daughter of Len and Joyce Brown and have lived in the Eastern suburbs for over 40 years.

My daughter and grandchildren also live in Rongotai.

I was educated at Wellington East Girls College, and later trained as a cartographer, spending 25 years working as a draughtsperson for a leading consulting engineering firm. I worked on many of the bigger civil projects in the Eastern suburbs, including the Regional Aquatic Centre, the Moa Point sewerage plant and Wellington International Airport.

I have been involved in various community groups and organisations. I was the founding trustee of the Resource Management Advisory Service and in 1998 chaired the community campaign against the proposal to sell off shares in the Wellington International Airport Ltd. The Wellington City Council still retains their shares in the airport which pay a tidy dividend to the Council. I have appeared in the Environment Court representing the interests of property owners affected by the airport.

I have served on the Wellington City Council since 1998. I am the chair of the District Plan and Reserves Subcommittee and am chair of the Regulatory Committee. I have been the Council Representative on the Disability Reference Group and am at present the Council representative on the Pacific Advisory Group.

I am accessible and a good listener. I have drive and committment, and most importantly I act on the local issues.

I look forward to your support.
