Lance Girling−Butcher, 67, married with three adult children and three grandchildren. I am seeking a second term on the council to complete a number of projects started while learning the ropes in my first three years.

I am interested in all issues across the whole district and the full range of council activities taking particular care with matters involving minorities such as the disabled, the elderly, the young and Maori. I believe that in making way for essential progress we have to take care to preserve things that make this district so appealing to residents and visitors alike.

While building on the impressive list of facilities left by past visionaries and maintaining the well−developed infrastructure established by past administrations it is essential to find the fine line between maintaining vitality while keeping rate rises in check. We must grow or stagnate, but not grow at any cost.
