Kevin D. Moore
BSc Honours. Advisory Board ASPO (NZ). Although formally qualified in Chemistry, I have practical experience in applied sciences, engineering and permaculture. I have taught many topics, including pure sciences, industrial technology, horticulture, language and environment. I have had numerous technical, accounting, budgetary and management roles, and have experience of communication with people of different cultures. I have a strong empathy with traditional Maori values.
The world is changing rapidly and old ways of doing things are no longer appropriate. Author of four books on economics and the environment (which have proven accurate), I am extremely well qualified to lead the district towards better ways of doing things.
I promote informed discussion that will lead to appropriate policies for the long term benefit of the community, a genuine improvement in the quality of life, and a reduction in the rates burden via efficient use of resources.
Top 5 Issues
- There have been masive losses of community money and missed opportunities, as a consequence of poor investment decisions. This needs to be urgently addressed before further losses are incurred.
Gold is close to $1300, five times the price of a decade ago and up $500 since I campaigned 3 years ago.
Why, as a prime dairying district, have we 'invested' in dairy farms in another country?
As mayor I will be looking for answers and won't accept excuses. - The NPDC 10 year community plan is completely lacking in discussion of any of the factors that will determine the future. This needs ot be urgently adressed.
- Cost over-runs, employment of out-of-town consultants and general inefficiencies have resulted in unnecessarily spending, which have in turn resulted in increased rates charges being carried by the community. his must be stopped immediately.
- There is no vision for long term sustainability within the current council: everything is based on short term thinking and complete lack of understanding of monetary and environmental issues.
- Large amounts of funding have been poured into special interest projects, whilst other extremely important areas have received no funding.
For its neglect of vital matters, the present council is in breach of the Local Government.
As Mayor I will ensure that the council complies with all provisions of the Local Government Act 2002.
Personal Profile
I have BSC Honours Chemistry and have had a number of management roles which have required precise budgeting skills.
I am a member of ASPO and was a speaker at a symposium dedicated to dealing with the energy crisis that is now unfoleding.
I have studied the economic system extensively and have written several books on the economic system and how it impacts on society and the environment.
I am in regular contact wiith some of the most informed people in the world and have my eye firmly 'on the ball'.
I play bridge, which is card game requiring careful forward planning to make best use of one's resources (cards). I am on the committe of the local bridge club.
I have been focused on sustainability for many years and have taken many practical steps towards sustainability on my own property. Sustainability is the key to the future and is the new paradigm. Nothing in the present system is sustainable, -that means nothing is financially sustanable, socially sustanable and environmentally sustainable- and present economic arrangements are starting to collaspe as a consequence of their inherent unsustainabilty.

My 'edge' over other candidates is that I have studied sciences and technology (chemistry, engineering, electronics and many others.) to a high level, and have studied the financial system and economics to a high level, and have written books about them, which, as far as I know, no other candidate has done. As mayor I would not be bamboozled by technical or financial reports and would quickly get the crux of any issue.
My leadership would be on the basis of informed discussion of correct facts (how can you make an appropriate decision if you don't have the correct facts?) If the correct facts are not available I would do what it takes ot obtain them -but not by employing out-of-town consultants (unless absolutely unavoidable). My experience (and that of many people I have spoke wioth) is that ther is a great deal of expertise in the Taranaki district whoich is not being lsitened to by the current council. (I taught Englisj ot Asian students and listening is a key skill.)
My background and thinking are very much oriented to precision and careful use of resources to obtain the best result. For instance, I play bridge, which is a partnership game that requires good communication between partners and careful planning of the play of the cards to get good scores. I use to play chess (but have not done much recently) and that is all about understanding the value of pieces and using them in concert accoring to some plan or strategy to achieve the required result. I have personally carried out design and construction relating to numerous projects. I beloive I have a unique mix of practical and theoretical knowledge no other candidate has, and my managerial and tutorial excperience would enable me to guide those less informed than me in the right direction

1) From what I have seen of the matter, NPDC\'s handling of the Waitara Leasehold issue has been appalling, characterised by a high-handed arrogance and an eagerness to enforce unjust and destructive policies based on misinformation, fabrications or inappropriate policies -much the same as with practically every other issue, I\'m afraid.
2) I have spent quite a lot of time in Waitara and it is clear me that the community has been severely neglected. From what I have learned when speaking with people, a large portion regard the presently constututed NPDC as their enemy. (That is true for many people in other parts of the district, of course).
As mayor, I will endeavour to correct that situation as quickly as possible.
3) As I indicated above, Waitara has all the signs of having been left to languish, and many of the people seem to be \'hanging on by their finger nails\'. From what I have seen, the lives of very few people in the Waitara district have imporoved over recent years -and many complain of inordinate rate rised for which they have received little benefit. Unfortunately so much money has been squandered by the present council it will be difficult to pull the district back from the brink, but the people of Waitara can be assured that with me as mayor they will get a fair hearing and a fair allocation of resources.
Einstein said it was a sign of madness to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. If people keep voting for the same people or for the same [corporate] agenda they will continue to get the same. Only by voting for someone different can they expect anything get anything different.
Time has almost run out: voting papers need to be in the post on Wednesday, or hand delivered by Friday.
