UPPER HARBOUR LOCAL BOARD

June is well known for her commitment to local democracy. As  President of Hobsonville Residents & Ratepayers Association  she has led community input into the Northern Region Growth Strategy and fought to preserve local identity  and the Upper Harbour environment.

Former Waitakere City Councillor, Director Waitemata Health, Community Board member, Tourism Auckland Board and  Environment Court Commissioner.   June is a highly skilled and successful community advocate,   experienced in local government , environment law and financial management.    A respected and effective contributor to many community organisations.

June says “I am standing for the Upper Harbour  Board because this growing area  needs a  strong voice.       My policy is ‘Ratepayers First’ and I will support  consultation with residents,  community and business organisations on local initiatives and spending priorities.   Our Local Board  must be an empowered and vital  part of the new Auckland City and  I would appreciate your vote  to represent you.”

WAITEMATA DISTRICT HEALTH BOARD

As a former Director of Waitemata Health and Chair of Three Harbours Health Foundation (North Shore/Waitakere) June is experienced in health sector governance and the need to provide quality healthcare for all residents and all generations.   Having served as a Waitakere City Councillor,  Community Board  member and on Social Welfare Benefit Review Committee, June has a wide understanding of community needs and expectations.

Waitemata continues to grow rapidly.      Future focus needs to be on providing a high quality environment for staff and patients  along with a first class,  well managed and productive service.   Our  Board must continue to fight for a fair distribution of funds to progress emergency services and maintain high levels of staffing and support.  Our dedicated staff and patients deserve nothing less.   I am committed to ensuring that Waitemata Board continues to “Make a Healthy Difference.”

Top 5 Issues

  1. COMMUNITY
Keep our Ward well informed through local decisionmaking. Support safe secure neighbourhoods. Encourage and support arts, sport and cultural activities. Provide much needed facilities for our rapidly growing area.
  2. RATES AND CHARGES - AFFORDABILITY
Minimise the burden on households and businesses by delivering better value for money, keeping spending under control and focussing on core activities and services.
  3. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Develop a culture which encourages opportunities for job growth and progress. Create an environment which helps people get things done.
  4. ENVIRONMENT
Auckland has an outstanding environment of harbours, beaches, forests and rural hinterland to preserve and protect. Built environments need high quality design and sensible management of growth and development.
  5. TRANSPORT
Invest in transport options which enable more of us to move around conveniently. Support public transport and completion of motorway network and arterial routes.

Personal Profile

Married with two adult children.   Varied background in business and education.  Lived on a semi-rural lifestyle block until becoming a Hobsonville resident 18 years ago.  Have served in a number of elected and appointed positions in Council,  governance, and judicial roles.    Trained mediator and experienced adjudicator.  Have a passion for protecting the natural environment and encouraging a high standard of building design and provision of open space.   President Hobsonville/West Harbour Residents & Ratepayers Association with an active interest  in community development and quality of life.

I want to ensure that the Upper Harbour Ward receives a fair share of regional funding to meet the needs of this growing and vital area.   We need to work together to strengthen and support the organisations which keep the community alive.  Sports, Arts, Culture, Ethnic and Neighbourhood.        I would like to be part of building a new Auckland City which offers its citizens the very best opportunities to work and enjoy life.    We can do it.     And my goal is to continue building our Upper Harbour community into an even better place to live and call home.

I am standing for only one Local Board : Upper Harbour , because I believe our community deserves my 100% commitment.

Conflicts of Interest

To the best of my knowledge and belief, I have no conflicts of interest with the Waitemata District Health Board at the date of my notice of consent to being nominated as a candidate for membership for the board of the District Health Board, and I do not believe that any such conflicts of interest are likely to arise in future.

Dear Dr Imran

As a candidate, and not a sitting member of the Board, I do not have  background information  to your current dispute or negotiations with the DHB.

Citizens and Ratepayers Health Policy is to focus on \"strengthening and retaining the health workforce\" and gauge progress in \"workforce retention rates.\"

Please be assured of my support for those goals.

Kind regards

June Kearney
