Raised and born in Opotiki and returned to Opotiki in 1995 with my partner and some of our mokopuna. I believe that Council has insufficient Maori representation and if elected, I would proposed to represent their views, balanced by a clear understanding that Maori are not the only residents. Over the years I've noted a lot of dissatisfaction amongst Maori about lack of their views being expressed at Council level and note the recent letter from G K Torere in Opotiki News. I proposed to encourage Maori representation, and demand a referendum aimed at separate Maori Representation in Council, so Maori can at last participate fully in Council deliberations. There is a need to create in Opotiki a vibrant forward looking community where all are treated fairly. This has been a passion of mine for years and it can only be accomplished by a true partnership between Maori and Pakeha.
