Auckland Council – Albany Ward candidate
Julia Parfitt – Proudly Independent
Lifelong ward resident, current councillor and deputy mayor, Julia is proudly local and proudly independent. Julia believes that protecting our diverse communities from spiralling costs and excessive demands from the region will require an effective, experienced and independent local voice on the Council, committed to making the ‘super city’ work in the best interests of our people. Julia has a regional vision grounded in strong local values that focus on the essentials; safe, liveable communities, clean beaches and streams, frequent and affordable public transport, and less congestion on our roads.
Married with two sons, Julia is a part-time teacher at Northcross Intermediate who has devoted herself to listening to and working with our communities, and to ‘being there’ for people who need help and advice. Put her proven track record of success for all our communities to work for you, by making Julia your choice for your voice in Council.

Question
Julia Parfitt 's Reply
I strongly oppose water privatisation.
Water is a necessity of life With the expected passing of the Local Government Act 2002 Amendment Bill councils will be able to enter in to contracts with private companies for 35 years. You could have a one term council making the decision for a generation
Water is a natural monopoly as we just can\'t live without it. As a shareholder in a number of public companies I have nothing against private enterprise but not in monopoly situations for something as vital as water! Directors of companies are obliged to work in the best interests of their shareholders and generate a profit and pay tax. In North Shore City currently our water services do not generate profits and are not used to cross subsidise other council activities and because they are not operated as companies do not pay tax.
