WELLINGTION REGIONAL COUNCIL - WELLINGTON CONSTITUENCY

Judith was first elected as a Regional Councillor in 2001. She was formerly Chief Executive of the Education Review Office and of Women's Affairs. As chair of the finance committee, Judith has worked successfully with colleagues to keep rates as low as possible without risking environmental damage, retaining essential ratepayer services without unfair
debt burdens on current or future generations. "We subsidise affordable home insulation and have invested in rapidly improving public transport."

Now a qualified consent hearings commissioner, Judith has helped sustain a healthy environment that respects traditional cultural interests, whilst protecting regional parks and clean, publicly owned and controlled water. Judith aims at much better joined up regional services and strong encouragement for government agencies, councils, land developers and communities to protect our fragile natural environment. "We must conserve scarce resources and encourage socially responsible activities that support our health, cultural values and community resilience."

Aitken for action!

CAPITAL & COAST DISTRICT HEALTH BOARD

Dr Aitken has served continuously as an elected member of CCDHB since 2001. Before that she was Chief Executive of the Education Review Office and of Women’s Affairs.  For the past three years, Judith has concentrated on preventing childhood diseases like rheumatic fever; reducing the harm caused by alcohol; increasing the confidence of disabled people; improving support for home carers; and providing safe residential homes and respite services.

The new tertiary regional hospital supports over a million people, but placed a huge debt burden on CCDHB. “Despite big improvements in cost management, we must now work even harder sustaining essential services, and find responsive modes of care for everyone’s changing health needs.”

Dr Aitken has three main goals: major reductions in avoidable diseases that are especially damaging in poorer families; supportive workplaces that value all our employees; and much better linkages between hospitals and the community.

Aitken: first for action!

Conflicts of Interest

To the best of my knowledge and belief, I have no conflicts of interest with the Capital and Coast District Health Board (DHB) at the date of my notice of consent to being nominated as a candidate for membership of the board of the DHB, and I do not believe that any such conflcts of interest are likely to arise in the future.
