I believe in growth and maintenance of character through design.

I was born in Auckland at Howick and have lived in the Orakei Ward Area for over 20 years.

A professional architect with over 30 years experience working in Auckland, I have a deep affinity for the landforms and environment of this wonderful place. I also understand the processes that have led to Auckland being the city that it is today with all its faults and successes.

I am standing because I want to use my experience and my love of Auckland to help ensure that the character of the landscape and settlements that comprise the Orakei Ward are enhanced rather than diminished. The rapid growth of Manukau City engulfed my home suburb of Howick, detracting from its historic character.

I invite you to stand on the top of Mount Hobson - Remuwera, and imagine a future city which has grown in harmony with its beautiful landscape and harbour.

This is my vision for Auckland and I invite you to share it with me.

The greatest difference that I can make  will be to ensure that Design is the primary driver in  planning for growth and in  maintaining the character of the  communities and quality of environment that we currently enjoy in the Orakei ward.

My priorities on being elected are:

Survey the residents to find out what they most value about the areas that they live in and  incorporate these values  into planning decisions.

Transparency of decision making through regular briefing of the public. Ideally the public should be able to comment on Council policy in real time through interactive technology.

Analyse the traffic patterns within the ward looking at opportunities to mitigate its effects on areas which are blighted by traffic.

Look at areas within the Ward where growth can be best accommodated.

Plan for a more diverse public transport system which is responsive to the residents needs.

Top 5 Issues

  1. T o have a strategy through Design to allow Auckland to grow into a truly international city. This includes knowing where major items of infrastructure are to be sited to avoid the embarrassment of the Waterfront Stadium and Party Central.
  2. To maintain and enhance the character of Auckland’s unique landscape and, in particular, the character of the communities that make it up, and to do so in a sustainable and truly green fashion.
  3. To design a transport system that is flexible enough to meet the needs of the people it serves.
