I’m a proud West Aucklander. I want your vote for the Henderson-Massey local board. I’ll look after your street, not Queen Street.

My focus as a board member will be to increase transportation options for West Auckland residents. Most West Aucklanders commute to other parts of Auckland on a daily basis for work. At the moment, public transport services are substandard; this needs immediate attention to take the pressure off the North Western Motorway. We need dedicated busways, and improve the Waitamata Harbour Ferry services.

West Auckland needs a strong, fresh team to represent your interests on the Super City. We must preserve our unique culture, heritage, and identity and retain control of our public assets out west.

Vote for Future West for the best representation you can get. We stand for your street, not Queen Street.

Vote Jeremy Greenbrook-Held and Future West for the Henderson-Massey local board.

Top 5 Issues

  1. Transport - West Auckland is hugely dependent on the Northwestern Motorway to get around our city. For most West Aucklanders, public transport is not a realistic option, particularly if you live in West Harbour, Massey or Te Atatu. With the redevelopment of the Northwestern and the Hobsonville Deviation coming online shortly, there has never been a better time to build dedicated busways alongside the motorway in the west, similar to what North Shore residents enjoy. Better public transport helps everyone - it helps to free up the roads for those that need to drive (such as tradesmen). With most West Auckland workers traveling to other parts of Auckland to work every day, transportation out west needs some serious attention.
  2. Encouraging local businesses and industry to employ local workers and invest in our community - like most West Aucklanders, I travel to other parts of Auckland to work everyday. We need to encourage local business to employ more locals and put their profits back into our community. This can only be done through investment in local education and training, giving West Aucklanders the skills that local businesses need.
  3. Preservation of Local Facilities - It is hugely important that all West Auckland public faculties (such as pools, community centres, libraries and parks) remain publicly owned and well maintained under the Supercity.
  4. Costs. Rates are high. Good planning and good infrastructure are expensive but rates have been increasing by more than the rate of inflation for many years. If elected to the Board I will not have any power over the setting of the city's budgets but I will advocate for the reduction of expenses which cannot be justified.
  5. Strong West Auckland voice in order to preserve our unique identity - there's no debate; West Auckland is a great place to live. We need to preserve what makes West Auckland great, in particular, our diverse communities, the Waitakere Ranges and West Auckland beaches.

Personal Profile

I am 29 years old, and live in West Harbour with my wife Phoebe. We are involved in Waitakere Neighbourhood Support in West Harbour.

I work at the Manukau Institute of Technology as a senior manager in Student Affairs. I have previously worked as a public servant (Investment Advisor for the Tertiary Education Commission, and Contractor to Statistics New Zealand) in Wellington.

I grew up in Helensville, attending Kaukapakapa School and Kaipara College. I am a graduate of Victoria University - Master of Science (First Class Honours) in Geography (2008) and Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Studies (2004) and Bachelor of Science in Geography (2004). I was Victoria University Student President in 2005, when I was also a member of the University Council and the national governance board of Student Job Search.

In my spare time, I brew beer, run (I completed last year's Auckland Half Marathon in 2 hours, 7 minutes), and play golf (I play off a 15 handicap at Waitakere Golf Club).

Question

Jeremy Greenbrook-Held's Reply

Inorganic collection - will you bring it back?

Yes, I beleive the inorganic rubbish collection is a great chance to purge rubbish from around the home, which otherwise could be a fire or health hazard, and I think it should be free (provided fortnightly recycling collection also remains free).
