30 years experience in Pre Hospital Emergency Care throughout NZ, Rural and Urban, Advanced Paramedic, Adult Educator, Company Director. Combine this experience with 5 years as Consumer Advisor, Mental Health management team, Otago SDHB, ensuring a service user perspective in service development, strategic direction and policy implementation. Leadership roles include, National Association Mental Health Consumer Advisors, advisory member of the Mental Health Commission and Royal Australian NZ College of Psychiatrists. As a SDHB Board member, I will ensure a consumer, 'system advocacy', perspective is provided within the Board ensuring the needs of service users are acknowledged and understood; enable the community, urban/ rural, and SDHB staff to meet health needs within the parameters of fiscal responsibility; provide an environment that facilitates innovation, collaborative partnerships so that client focused, evidenced based services are implemented; ensure access to services that meet the community's needs in an environment of "more with less".

Conflicts of Interest

I have the following current conflicts of interest with the Southern District Health Board (DHB): A - I am an employee of the SDHB as Consumer Advisor, provider arm Otago Region, Mental Health and ID service. B - I am the Director of Paramedical Consultancy, Pre-hospital Emergency Care, advisory/training C - I am a director of Shock Advised, Retail AED supplier/training D - I have Consumer Advisory roles with the Mental Health Commission (sector reference group) and The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (Community Collaboration Committee and Committee for Therapeutic Interventions and Evidence-Based Practice) To the best of my knowledge and belief, I have no other conflicts of interest with the DHB at the date of my notice of consent to being nominated as a candidate for membership of the board of the DHB. I do not believe that any conflicts of interest are likely to arise in future, other than the continuation of the conflicts of interest stated above.
