I am standing as an 'Independent'. I am not a member of a pressure group, political party or business association. Waiheke has a diverse mix of people, rich, poor, artistic, professional, young and old. The local board has to represent all residents and ratepayers. I believe the Board needs a balance of practical down to earth people as well as professional politically motivated people. The Board needs to take ownership of Waiheke so we get the services and projects that will work for us. Young people are our future. They need a better BMX track, skateboard park, and community swimming pool. The UNESCO Biosphere proposal and cycleways may attract 'eco−tourists' but we could also become a location for movie makers sustainable entertainment/ sporting events. Do we want/ need a windfarm, tidal power projects, high speed broadband. Tell me what you want.
