Your Community Voice for Albert-Eden-Roskill Ward
You can vote for 2 Councillors for the Auckland Council in the new ward of Albert-Eden-Roskill.
Cr Cathy Casey and Cr Glenda Fryer are standing to give the community a voice. They have a strong track record as a team that delivers. As Councillors on the Auckland City Council they have:
-
Secured funding to protect our volcanic cones - Owairaka, Maungawhau and Puketapapa
-
Campaigned against John Banks' and C&R's wasteful plan to spend up to $30 million of ratepayers' money demolishing Monte Cecilia School
-
Demanded that our community has a say over where and when liquor stores can open.
-
Advocated for compensation and more parks for the communities most affected by SH20 - Waterview and Owairaka
-
Voted against John Banks and C&R increasing fixed charges that hike rates for ordinary people
-
Called for Council to fund the basics like footpaths, libraries and pools, not Rugby World Cup 2011 parties
Are you concerned that you and your family will be ignored under the Supercity?
Our communities in the Albert-Eden-Roskill ward deserve a strong voice on the new Auckland Council. We need hardworking local people who will deliver for our community, and make the Supercity work for all of us.
We need a Supercity that delivers for the many, not the few. Glenda & Cathy will:
-
Give our communities a real voice and stop the downtown takeover
-
Stop Rodney Hide, John Banks and C&R from selling off our assets - let's keep them publicly owned
-
Invest in the public transport our community needs
-
Deliver a fair rating system and stop ordinary people being squeezed by John Banks' and C&R's unfair fixed charges

I am standing as a Councillor candidate with Cr Cathy Casey in the Albert-Eden-Roskill Ward for the Auckland Council elections.
Track Record
Public Ownership: As a Councillor I have opposed the sale of Auckland's airport shares and pensioner housing when they were sold off, and will continue to oppose any sales or privatisation of Auckland assets in the super city. Water is a basic human right and privatisation of it will only increase costs of water to families.
Strong on local issues: I support locals in Balmoral opposing McDonalds right next to residential houses, locals who feel that Westfield St Lukes should expand in a way that is respectful to its residential neighbours in terms of its height and bulk, and locals in Three Kings for whom the filling of the quarry carries environmental and contamination danger.
State Highway 20 has been positive for Mt Roskill folk because land was put aside 50 years ago for it to be built, but for the Mt Albert, Owairaka and Waterview communities it has hung over them for the past 10 years with worries of community dislocation, visual and air pollution and fewer parks for children to play in. I have strongly campaigned for the tunnelling option, real mitigation for those affected, and against the tolling of the motorway.
As a youngster I leant piano for five years at Monte Cecilia Primary school in Hillsborough and have opposed Council spending $30 million to shift the school to an unsuitable site. Instead, repositioning the school to the side of the wonderful Pah homestead and new art gallery can ensure security for the historic school and maximum open green space for the public of Auckland to enjoy.
Environmental protection: At the citywide level the spatial plan the new Auckland Council is tasked with producing is going to be an important tool to plan how Auckland grows over the next 50 years. I am an experienced Councillor connected to our local diverse communities who will actively listen to how people want their neighbourhood, suburb and city to look, and the parks, infrastructure and amenities communities will need for the future.
Public Safety: Our communities need to know they and their property are safe from theft and vandalism. I have worked closely with community constables to ensure timely removal of graffiti, alcohol bans in local parks and shopping centres, and working with youth to make sure they are both properly cared for and supervised after school. Some shopping centres have received much needed additional security of cameras, and I have supported local 'community watch' initiatives.
Proactive on heritage issues: From campaigning to properly care and protect our volcanic cones and ecological sites, to making sure Mt Eden, Eden Valley, Balmoral, Kingsland, and Sandringham character town centres receive protection.
In Epsom, Mt Albert, Kingsland, Mt Eden and Three Kings I have tried to ensure that property owners of villas and bungalows in character areas are able to modernise them in a way which retains their best heritage features. I am your pro-heritage Councillor.
