Carole Evans, former Christchurch Deputy Mayor, has asked Glenda to stand for the City Council. Glenda believes that her three terms on the Community Board, 1998 – 2007 with the last 3 of those years as Chair, has given her the skills and experience to stand for the City Council. Glenda has shown a willingness and commitment to work with all groups, and has a pragmatic and focused attitude with a long record of community service in the Burwood Pegasus Ward. Glenda’s belief in the value of strong, resilient communities has been reflected in her work on the Community Board and with Canterbury Neighbourhood Support.
Christchurch is a wonderful city and it will face many challenges in the next few years – increasing population, safety for all residents and the provision of affordable Council services. Glenda will promote community involvement with the Council and will work to ensure that our rates are used wisely.
Top 5 Issues
- Strong, resilient communities.
With the recent earthquake it has been shown that Christchurch has strong, resilient communities. There have been many heart-warming stories of neighbours helping neighbours. These neighbourhood groups are the foundation stones on which our City is built. It is important that these groups are supported and increased in number. - Council and Community.
I believe that Our Council needs to be well connected to Our Community. The Council needs to ensure that it hears the issues affecting the community and also ensures that the community is aware and understands the decisions being made by the Council. Our City has a good network of residents groups and if elected I will attend as many of these groups as possible and also make myself available to local residents.
- Rates.
It is important that we all contribute to the rates that help to run our City - the libraries, Art Gallery, water, collection of rubbish etc. however it is important that we use the rate take wisely. I believe that we should provide support to community groups who have a proven record of assistance to our communities. - Drinking Water.
Christchurch is fortunate to have one of the best drinking water supplies in New Zealand. I believe that we should not be putting additives in our water - especially fluoride. As parents and caregivers it is our responsibility to teach our children how to wash their faces, brush their hair, cover their sneezes and clean their teeth properly. The use of Fluoride to improve dental health should remain a personal choice.
Personal Profile
I am pleased to have the endorsement of the Carole Evans QSO JP, former City Councillor for Burwood Pegasus and Christchurch Deputy Mayor.
In her endorsement Carole states:
"I have approached Glenda Burt, a previous Burwood Pegasus Board member for 9 years with experience of 3 years as the Community Board Chairperson to stand for election as a City Councillor. I have always been impressed with Glenda's pragmatic and focused attitude and her skills as a communicator. ... As a past Councillor I have continued to be involved with voluntary community organisations in the Burwood Pegasus area and I am always impressed by the community work being carried by Glenda Burt. ... I have immense pleasure in recommending her to the Burwood Pegasus community.
