Greetings
To our community of National significance.
This is one of the most important times within the long history of the Kapiti Coast.
We have in this Election an oppotunity to stand up and protect the very essence
of why we identify this region as the Nature Coast.
I believe that by taking inspiration from the renaissance of Wellington City,
the Wairarapa and Marlborough communities and the advantage of the new rail system
our coastal towns have unlimited potential.
We need to interface our new rail system into a new town centre and forge a unique
personality for this special place.
I will advocate to extend the visionary work of James Lunday's Company Common Ground.
He provided world class designs for the two lane Western Link and eco communities which
ensure we gift to future generations a sustainable legacy.
As a new district wide Councillor, I will proudly be accountable to the Kapiti Coast Community.
I value your support

Top 5 Issues
- ROADING
I oppose the construction of a four lane State Highway through a string of communities known as the Nature Coast, whose primary purpose is to move 53 ton rigs at 110kph. It can not be mitigated. It's effect's on the environment and community will be devastating. It will have a systemic effect on property and community values and destroy the essence of the brand "Nature Coast". It disappoints me that this motorway is being promoted as progress for our community. For further information please go to Facebook 'Glen Hooker for Kapiti' - RAIL
The interface of our new rail network into our local transport system is paramount for the community, particularly the elderly. The Elizabeth St underpass should be prioritized so that the two sets of traffic lights in Waikanae could be removed. Residents on the eastern side of the railway line are in for major inconvenience as NZTA bring thousands of truck loads of hard fill out of the Waikanae quarry to build the new motorway. This reinforces the need to develop an master plan for the district so that the community has peace of mind. - COMMUNITY
I have made this decision to stand for council because I believe my role will be to serve the whole community not the interests of any minority group. I am deeply concerned that the same group who instigated for the state highway to be relocated through the western link designation have publicly stated that their mandate in this election is to have a controlling position within our next council. - PROTECTING OUR NATURE COAST
I believe it is very important that our communities have a voice within council that recognizes the value of the lifestyle that we have on the coast. The Kapiti Coast has a unique opportunity to become a vibrant coastal city while retaining our beautiful landscape and character. Good urban design and thoughtful development will allow a more equitable contribution between commercial and residential rate payers. My vision with Council's leadership is to give direction to business's and inspiration to residents. By attracting investment we can plan for facilities to support our artistic community and grow while still reflecting our culture and history. It is essential that the inherent qualities that provide the nature coast their sense of place are nurtured. - THE FUTURE
I will advocate that the Council carry out a full review of it's financial position at the beginning of this triennium. The focus I will bring to Council is on the future. The potential of our natural resources, tourism and quality urban development that reflects the essence of our Nature Coast as we become a city in 2011. It is only when we lift the bar that we will attract innovative companies to our new city. We will never become a preferred destination if we continue to allow the same standard that has locked us into the 1970's for the last 40 years.
