Elizabeth Tennet stands for more businesses, more jobs, all young people under 20 years in jobs or training, tackling the Council’s debt problems, respect for the environment, Citizens’ Awards for volunteers, and leadership through collaboration, not conflict. Elizabeth is CEO of New Zealand’s textiles industry association, a businesswoman and lifestyle farmer, a former Member of Parliament, a former tourism operator and Director of Tourism New Zealand and a strong advocate with a social and environmental conscience. Elizabeth has successfully delivered economic and tourism development for the City and the River, and has been Secretary/Board member of Bushy Park Trust, a member of the Taranaki/Whanganui Conservation Board, and Chairperson of Whanganui Living Without Violence. Elizabeth is a do-er and will be a strong independent voice on Council. Elizabeth is married to John and they have a 21 year old son.
